How did you get started in the business?
I was inspired to begin the project of 'Incidents & Accidents'
by Rosie O'Donnell. The first time I saw Rosie on her talk show,
I was channel flipping and stopped on this woman singing 70s music VERY
off-key and thought, "This is someone I can relate to." It wasn't
long after this that I happened to stumble upon her web presence on AOL.
Shortly after the discovery, I began writing funny excerpts about her show.
One in particular entitled 'What Rosie's Reduced Us To' apparently got
her attention. She responded by writing, "Kimber...You Crack Me Up!"
It was then that I thought, "If I can make Rosie laugh, who's heard
it all - ever joke, every one-liner and every pun, then I can make all
women laugh." I started sending her excerpts of Incidents & Accidents
and she had Bernie Young, her now producer but then manager, call me.
He gave me advice on how to get my work protected and how to go about getting
published...
Why do you do what you do?
Because it is challenging, fun and a great adventure!
What's your inspiration?
GOD
Which piece do you enjoy the most?
The two I like the most are in the book. One is entitled
The Circle Goes
Round and the other is A Curve in the Road. These
two chapters came at
a time when I did not believe I had a drop of creativity left.
I prayed and whined, groaned and even thought, at one point, that I didn't
have what it took to be a humor writer. Shortly after midnight when
everything was quiet (including me), poof - these two chapters came through
me. I cannot explain in words how wonderful the moment was.
It was like a dance. One I had never been shown before - divine intervention.
It was then that I knew the direction my humor writing was to take and
where (to a degree) it would lead.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In my COMPLETELY remodeled home that will be paid off.
YES! I will see my daughter, Christy, graduate from high school,
three (so far) more published books, my husband's business will skyrocket,
even more than it is already. Oh, and I'll be a gazillionaire and
be able to take care of all of the people I love.
