Do you think you've got what it takes to help with the production of Just Laugh magazine? If so, we'd love to hear from you...

Just Laugh is currently looking to make some major expansions to our existing staff, so please drop us a line if you happen to have any interests in one or more of the positions available below. Please keep in mind that although we can't currently offer monetary compensation to our staff members, a number of promotional options are available to make it worth your time...if you'd like to lend your talents to one of the largest humor sites on the Internet, don't be shy - let us know:

Please send all staffing-related questions and submissions to: editors@justlaugh.com

Contributing Staff...
Columnists
Although our current lineup is already pretty well covered with regards to this area at the time, we're always in search of the next Dave Barry and are willing to consider anyone for either freelance work or direct syndication. While both receive an equal chance in our bucket, keep in mind that exclusive pieces are more likely to be of use to us at this time... Must follow our current production schedule of at least one new piece every three weeks.
Comics & Cartoonists
Do you already create your own comic strip/web comic, or would you like to start? We're in desperate need (ok, not THAT desperate!) of some new comics to add to our issues, so whether you're simply interested in syndicating your existing comics or want to draw an exclusive strip for Just Laugh, we'd love to see what you've got in mind! Syndication applicants must be able to consistently follow a production schedule of one new strip every week to allow us some "editorial elbow-room." Extra points for comics in color!
Animated Shows
Flash animation is proving to be the guiding light in this day and age, and we want in on it! We know that there are some hilarious shows being made out there, so if you happen to be a part of one of these and would like to expand your audience by a few thousand more people, we should talk. As this can be one of the more complex contributions, a regular schedule need not be set in stone, but humor us and at least have some guidelines made up...
News Writers
If you don't necessarily write a full-blown column right now, but are still interested in writing for the magazine, you might consider trying your hand at writing some news stories instead. Oh yeah, and the best part of it all is that they don't have to even have ever happened! That's right - you get to make up the news, just like that other huge humor site does! We've actually got quite a bit of room for growth in this area right now, so even if you'd only be able to write one or two stories per issue, drop us a line and we'll see what we can come up with - we're flexible like that...
Feature Producers
Our special projects, such as our various joke compilations, interviews and local reports, are some of the most popular pieces on the site, and we're looking for new blood to get involved with these things! Many different possibilities are available here, depending on your particular interests, so if you've got a general knack for creating humor and think you might be able to add to our production, this is certainly something that you should be considering. Time management and the ability to work on all aspects of a project from the ground up are vital; graphic design experience is a plus, but we have other options if need be.

General Staff...
Editors
(titles yet to be determined)
We're looking for the right individuals to play key roles with Just Laugh, both in the production of the magazine itself (issue by issue) and in the upkeep of the website as a whole. Depending on the applicant, duties might include anything from keeping a specific area of the site up to date (i.e. Downloads section) all the way to providing input towards new submissions by columnists and cartoonists to the magazine. Please note that this/these positions are much more in-depth and time-consuming than anything else listed here, but if you're truly interested and enthused about getting involved with Just Laugh in its entirety, there are options to explore here!
Graphic Designers
Anyone who is proficient with any of the major photographic & artistic programs (Adobe, Macromedia, Corel) and enjoys creating custom artwork may take a special interest in providing graphics, logos, etc... for our special projects and the website in general (completely graphical projects, such as The Great Lakes Circle Tour are also possible). Must be able to work from the ground up - no clipart or cheap Photoshop tricks - and be able to follow strict deadlines.
Joke Database Manager
As our joke database is finally converted over into an actual database format (MySQL), it's been decided that we'll be needing a single person to watch over this to ensure that it becomes (and remains) the largest joke database on the Internet. The layout implies very simple interaction, so the major purpose of this position would be to keep duplicates out and to continue adding new jokes in under the appropriate categories. As the database grows, it may become difficult for even one person alone to handle, so breaking it up even further to assign categories is also a possibility.
List Manager (+DB)
This person will be in charge of maintaining Just Laugh's mailing lists (currently 3) via majordomo, as well as ensuring that Just Laugh's Joke of the Day is sent out every day as scheduled. There's actually not much to this one, so it would certainly be possible to delegate some responsibilities from the Joke Database Manager, such as adding in new jokes and/or maintaining specific categories.
(The Laugh Hole) Store Manager
As our store completes its conversion to a dynamic form, we'll need somebody to over-see it in its entirety and keep everything up to date - mostly by adding new products as they become available and incorporating product reviews as necessary. This person will also play a role in the promotion of the store in all areas, including the magazine itself. A strong knowledge of PHP and MySQL is required.
(The Laugh Hole) Product Reviewers
Do you read a lot of books, or listen to a lot of comedy CDs, or otherwise interact with a lot of the kinds of items which are featured in our store? It's a proven fact that testimonials can have a huge influence on what people end up buying, so we're looking for people to write reviews of the books, movies and so forth in our store. Writing skills are extremely important here, as we're looking for something a little more in-depth than "I liked it - it was funny!" Although it's not guaranteed in any circumstance, promotional copies may also be available from the authors, but don't count on any amount of free stuff rolling in until you've purchased more than your share of these people's stuff...we already have!
Public Relations Director
The primary concept of this position is to have somebody on hand to deal with people trying to sue us for one reason or another, although luckily that hasn't happened in a while! Other duties include site promotion via link exchanges and eventually hopefully paid advertising, as well as helping us to choose which advertisers we should be including on the site. Answering disgruntled e-mail is also another fun slant! Candidate should be friendly, yet sane, with a high stress-toleration level; some legal background would also be a plus!
Staff Writers
Do you enjoy writing, but maybe just aren't feeling the whole 'columnist-thing'? We have many other areas of the site that constantly need copy written for them, including biographical, promotional, and even some local coverage. If you'd be interested in writing for us and are willing to take on a wide variety of subjects, this could be the position for you. Obviously, a strong knowledge of english and grammar skills are important, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.
Webmaster
Although our primary goal is to be able to assign enough members of our staff to cover all of the areas of the site, in reality this is never going to happen and this job pretty much picks up the slack. Any area is fair game, as well as future upgrades, helping feature producers and such convert their material into formats suitable for display online and so forth. Most of our reader mail is actually concerning various technical issues of the site, so you would also play a role in handling most of this. Experience with PHP (or another dynamic programming language) and MySQL is desired, although we'd be willing to help train the right person.
