Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions...

How do I go about downloading your wonderful files here?

First of all, many of the files found here have a .zip extension, meaning that they are compressed ZIP archives and often contain more than one file. This method is used to make it easier to download multiple files and to speed things up by compressing them. If you are running Windows XP on your computer, then you don't need any additional software to open these files. All other users need to download a decompression utility, such as WinZip - installation instructions for this software can be found at their site.

Once you've completed this step, you're ready to begin downloading and hopefully playing! Clicking on the links to any of these files will cause a window to open, asking what you'd like to do with this file. Choose 'SAVE' and you will then be asked where you'd like it to download to - we suggest making a new folder under either 'My Documents' or directly on your desktop to make finding your new files easier! Once you've found a folder to place the file in, click 'SAVE' and it will begin to download. Depending on the speed of your connection, this could take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes...

After the download has finished, you need to go to the folder where you put it, whether it be in 'My Documents' or on the desktop or anywhere else, and run the file by double-clicking on it. In some cases, the lone file you've downloaded will be an executable (ends in .exe) and will start-up as soon as you do this - you're all set and can begin enjoying the game! The rest of these files will most likely be ZIP files, as mentioned above, and double-clicking on them will open up a new window if you've actually been following the directions and already installed WinZip! This window will show you a list of all the files inside the archive you've just downloaded, so to decompress them for your own use, simply press the 'Extract' button and choose where you'd like the files to go. Warning: you may want to make a separate folder for these new files if there are several in the archive!

Once this has been done, you've now simply got the task of figuring out exactly how to use the files you've just arduously downloaded and decompressed! Although each archive is different and we can't type out instructions for EVERYTHING here, your best bet is to go to that folder which you just 'unzipped' everything to and start looking for clues there. Most archives come with their own set of instructions in the form of a README file, so this can be a big help! After reading thoroughly through this, you can proceed to follow their own instructions and with any luck, you should be rockin' in no time...

This is disgusting - how do I delete this garbage off my computer?
While getting it there in the first place is usually fairly simple, the removal process can often times be a whole lot trickier...

In most cases, the hardest part will be finding where you either downloaded these files to or where you decompressed them to, depending on the download in question. Open up Windows Explorer to find a full listing of all the folders and files on your system - from here you just need to click around until you find the files and/or directories you're wishing to rid yourself of.

You need to be very careful here because deleting the wrong files can seriously ruin any future computing experiences!

If you followed the directions above and created new folders for your downloads, you should just be able to open this folder, highlight what you'd like to delete and press your 'Delete' key. You'll be prompted to confirm your selection, after which the files will be gone forever! (ok, actually they'll get sent to your Recycle Bin, but we're not even going to get into that here...)

If the above explanation still leaves you confused or you're in any way feeling uneasy about deleting files from your computer, don't feel bad - lots of people your age are like this! Luckily, there is hope. Just call up your neighborhood computer geek and tell him that there's an easy twenty bucks in it for him to come cleanup some files off your computer - sure, it's easy money for him, but it certainly beats dealing with "Technical Support" after you've really botched things up by trying to do it yourself...

I want to use one of your images as my desktop wallpaper - how do I do it?
This one's pretty easy! As long as you're running a fairly recent version of your web browser, simply right-click on the image of your choice. A menu will drop down, presenting you will an array of options - to make your selection your new desktop wallpaper, simply select the option that says either 'Save as Wallpaper' or 'Set as Background', depending on your browser. Now you'll see that if you minimize all of your windows, the picture you chose is plastered all over your screen for all to see! Change your mind? Just find a different picture that better suits your tastes and repeat the process...

Want to simply SAVE an image to your computer to show your friends and family later? Just select'Save As...' from the right-click menu and choose where you'd like it to go - aren't computers fun?!

Your stupid program gave me a freakin' virus! What the hell?!?!?!
Actually, no it didn't...

Many of the downloads found in our 'Computer Toys' section have been known to trigger various anti-virus programs as being hazardous or malicious to your system because they make specific hardware changes themselves without asking you - the user - first. Some examples of these changes would be adjusting the volume control for your speakers or opening your CD-ROM drive, although there's technically no permanent alterations being done. Even though these settings aren't making any harmful changes, it looks like they are, so your system is throwing up a red flag...

All of the software available for download from our site has been verified both by us and the original manufacturers themselves to be free of viruses, worms, and in most cases spyware, too, unless specificly mentioned by the manufacturer. If you're still paranoid about downloading bad stuff from our servers, then you might as well save your time and bandwidth 'cause you probably wouldn't think that they're very funny anyways!

Why don't you offer any downloads for Macs?
Honestly, because none of us use Macs and we wouldn't know the first thing about them! Nevertheless, many of the companies whose downloads are available on our site also offer versions for Macs and various other platforms, so you might want to check with any of them, depending on what exactly you're looking for. Of course, if you happen to be a Mac-fanatic and would be interested in setting up some cool Mac downloads for us, contact our webmaster for more details...
I've either got a question that you didn't answer here OR I'm involved with a company that has designed some very cool games/screen savers/wallpaper images/other miscellaneous computer toys that I think you might be interested in featuring here - how do I go about contacting you?
