Originally born in Culiacan, Mexico, neither Paul nor his family would've ever
thought that he'd find himself as a stand-up comedian earning a living! After
entering the air force straight out of high school, Paul soon found himself attending
California State University in pursuit of a law degree. It was only by chance that
his acting teacher in an elective theater course introduced him to the Comedy Store
in Los Angeles where he would soon discover his calling.
Beginning as a meager doorman, Paul convinced the club owner to let him perform
during the wee hours of the night, but he quickly found himself playing regular hours
at comedy clubs across the country and even opening for larger acts yet. Throughout
his early stand-up career, he also acted in several short-lived, yet career building
television series', including Pablo, Trial and Error, and Grand Slam. He continued
to perform anywhere he could and eventually wound up in a slew of feature films such
as Quicksilver, Born in East L.A., Miracles, and even Made in America alongside Whoopi
Goldberg, Ted Danson and Will Smith.
In addition to Paul's extensive acting and comedy careers, he has also chosen to take
an active role behind the camera. In 1994 he directed his first film, A Million to Juan,
which grossed over $13 million, yet cost only $165,000 to make. He continues to make
appearances both on television and the silver screen today, and can occasionally be found
touring the comedy circuit as well.
