American Pie 2  (2001)

Ok, I wasn't really a fan of the first American Pie.  I mean, it was ok, but it was little more than a raunchy teen gross out comedy.  I'm still trying to figure out why it was as successful as it was.  but here is something even more baffling.  The SEQUEL had the 3rd largest opening for a
comedy EVER.  And this one wasn't even as good as the original.

The basic plot is taking the characters from American Pie, and seeing what happened to them after their first year of college.  The usual set up of embarrassing situations, sex talk, and profanities ensue.  The one thing that made the first movie even bearable for me, was the sincerety of the characters.  That is totally lost in AP2.  The entire plot seems forced, and for lack of a better word...sequelish.

Most of the actors from the original have become moderate movie stars since 1999.  All of the characters do APPEAR in the sequel, but mostly in diminished roles.  I'm not sure that Mena Suvari, Chris Klien, Thomas Ian Nichols, Shannon Elizabeth, and Tara Reid are in the movie for more than 20 minutes EACH, let alone together.  The movie studio seems to have taken the two people who got the biggest laughs in AP1, and greatly expanded their roles in AP2 (Namely Jason Biggs and Seann William Schott).  Both of whom are reasonably funny, but you start to get annoyed by them by the end of the movie (especially Scott who relies WAY too much on the word 'Fuck').

Over all, I'd give it  5.5 out of 10.

Not bad, but not good either.  Is it worth the $7.00?  Maybe, but your best bet would be to wait for video.
