Waiting for Guffman (1996)
Dir. Christopher Guest
Starring: Christoper Guest, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Fred Willard, Parker Posey

This is just simply one of the funniest movies I've ever seen!!  Ok, the basic plot is that the small town of Blaine, Missouri is celebrating its sesquitennial (150th) anniversary.  The film is made in the style of a 'mockumentary' *very much in the style of This is Spinal Tap in which Guest stars*.  The credits claim that Guest and Levy co-wrote the script...but there really was no script.  Just a loose plot outline.  Most of the lines are all impromptu.  and it's the lines that make this movie so good.  There is really nothing funny about the story, but these people say the absolutely most ludicrous things! (Ex: They say that if you don't like the weather in Missouri, wait five minutes...I really think that with some hard work, we can get that down to 3-4 minutes.)  If you liked Spinal Tap, go out and rent this one RIGHT NOW!  You won't be disappointed!

The Emperor's New Groove (2000)

Featuring the voices of:  David Spade, John Goodman, Patrick Warburton, Eartha Kitt

This is Disney's latest animated film.  But unlike every Disney movie that I know of, this is NOT a musical.  There is only one song in the entire hour and twenty minutes (and it's sung by Tom Jones).  No, no music, this one is a straight comedy.  David Spade plays a selfish, vain, and cocky South American emperor.  He is accidentally transformed into a llama by his evil advisor, an her bumbling henchman (Eartha Kitt and Patrick Warburton respectively).  The cocky emperor must then rely on the help of the loley herder Pacha (John Goodman).  He then learns the typical lesson of humilty that we've come to expect from kid's movies, but what sets this one apart are the jokes. Line after line after line of great dialogue and GREAT jokes.  This movie had me in stitches from the beginning to the credits.  It's definately the best Disney animated feature since Hercules.  It doesn't have the artistic quality of The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, but in the tradition of Aladdin, it's a laugh-a-minute riot.  Spade and Goodman have great chemistry, but Patrick Warburton (Putty from Seinfeld) really steals the show as the lovable Kronk.  If you're in the mood for a great comedy, check this one out...and don't think it's just a kid's movie.  It's great for people of all ages, and I mean that!
