It eventually got closer and closer to dinner time and we finally decided
that we’d best pack up and wander in for the last supper.
We arrived back at camp and quickly remembered that we were also supposed
to be packing up everything to load back onto the bus – just a slight oversight!
I don’t think I ever actually ended up loading anything that night because
of everything that was going on, but it’s not like I was all that concerned
about it fitting on in the morning, anyways. If nothing else, I’d
just have one hell of a carry-on for the ride home…

Rob and K.C. decided that if they couldn't beat 'em, they'd
might as well join 'em...

Things got a little crazy as the sun went down, as clearly visible in
the picture above! We all inhaled our spaghetti dinner like it was
nothing and shortly after, made our last trip into town in preparation
for the nightly ranger program. Of course, no ranger program would’ve
been complete without lots and lots of ice cream, so the clan stopped off
at The Marina Store for a few treats! We all sat outside and solemnly
consumed our frozen desserts, and yes, those are winter jackets…

Christina actually thought I had gotten a much worse picture, that
of her enjoying the popcicle mid-lick.
I wish I was that talented!

Did paradise drive K.C. crazy???
No, he's been that way for quite a while...

The ranger program turned out to easily be the best we’d seen the entire
week as our favorite performers from Saturday night returned to give us
a history of the Everglades. It was a beautiful mixture of story
and song, and the tunes they chose to tell the tale – including both A
Pirate Looks at Forty and Seminole Wind – couldn’t have been
better! He even threw in a Garth Brooks song and I enjoyed it
– it was that good of a show. The entire thing only lasted an hour
and I was a bit sad to get up and leave, but as I told K.C. as we left,
I’m pretty sure a return trip even several years later would feature the
same performance – these people were happy with what they were doing and
weren’t going anywhere!

A perfect history of the Everglades, with a beat!

Well, it’s probably pretty obvious what we chose to finish out our last
night in the Everglades – a giant, free-spirited game of hacking was in
order and we played until the atmosphere was just too goofy to continue!
Although we started with a fairly strong skill-ratio, by the time we were
through neither K.C. or I could hardly hit the thing and we knew that it
was just about time to call it a night. Everyone had had a blast
and it was great to end our stay with everyone smiling, but we still had
an extremely early day ahead of us and apparently I was expected
to wake up for it, at five in the morning…
They’d have to take the tent down around me for that to happen.
This young owl sat nearby and watched our entire game.
I'll bet he got a good laugh out of it...
