| Sept. 17, 2001 - "The only place anyone needs to go find
anything, communicate with anyone, or buy anything." The self-appointed
title of #1 Internet Brand Globally is hard to argue with, considering
the simple fact that the media giant averages around 1.2 billion
pages views per day from an estimated 200 million unique monthly visitors!
Repeatedly producing numbers that the rest of us in the Internet publishing
community could only dream of, it's easy to see why they dominated this
category in this year's awards! We're also guessing that they probably
could've taken the Best Director and Funniest Food
categories, too - had they been nominated...
Yahoo! is the perfect example of how dreams can come true and
why anyone with a good idea should never give up on it. Founded in
1994 by David Filo and Jerry Yang, two Ph. D. candidates at Stanford University,
Yahoo! quickly became a privately-financed project only two years
later, and within five years had reached users in 24 countries and 12 languages.
The globally-recognized directory and search service now offers users literally
hundreds of new features, including e-mail, stock quotes, custom driving
maps, shopping and free web hosting. They also proudly boast that
their worldwide audience is greater than any broadcast, radio or print
media ever! Yahoo! is definitely in a class of its own, claiming
the title Most Useful Website, and asking the key question of a
new era: Do you Yahoo? |
